31 Day Prayer Challenge

Jun 3, 2020 | Bible Study | 0 comments

Prayer is our communication line with the Father through the power of Jesus’ name. Just like fruit flourishes when it stays connected to the vine, so do we when our connection with God is strong.

The goal over the next 31 days is not to know all of God’s answers or to “wish” for all your dreams to come true, but to establish deeper roots in your relationship with the Lord. You will be challenged every day to pray for a specific area of your life in a purposeful way. You will also be challenged to write down your prayer as a way of journaling your journey. In later seasons of your life, you will be able to look back and be reminded of the faithfulness of God.

What you will need during this 31-day prayer challenge:

– A HUMBLE SPIRIT
“When all the people saw this, they fell prostrate and cried, “The Lord—he is God! The Lord—he is God!” 1 Kings 18:39

God has just performed an incredible miracle in front of all 450 prophets of Baal. He sent fire from heaven and licked up every drop of water that drenched the sacrifice including the altar it sat upon. After this the people humbled themselves before the God Almighty, proclaiming his lordship.

There should be a pause of sober reverence when entering the presence of God. When we approach his sovereign throne, we ought to fall to our knees before the Holy One. Humble yourself before the Lord when you come to him to pray.

It is the humble spirit that hears the heart of the Father. The prideful heart is unable to hear the purity of God’s voice.

– YOUR BIBLE
“Then he opened their minds so they could understand the Scriptures.” Luke 24:35

We know the voice of God when we know the word of God.

These prayer prompts will be founded by a supporting scripture. It is the word of God that should motivate our conversations with the Father. We know him by reading his word. Often when we are searching for answers from God, we speak our mind to him and ask for some miraculous sign or booming voice. But the truth is, he shares his heart with us on the pages of the Bible. We pray and read the Bible so that our hearts would be changed by his word that he speaks to us.

Use the word as a foundational compass as you pray. God is already speaking to you.

– SACRED TIME
“Three times a day he [Daniel] got down on his knees and prayed, giving thanks to his God, just as he had done before.” Daniel 6:10b

Daniel was a dedicated servant of God. His relationship with the Lord was important to him. So important that he had three specific, and sacred, times a day that he prayed to God.

This is the kind of dedication we are called to have when we pray. Prayer should not be a pastime. Prayer should be a special time only for the Father.

Carve out sacred time with God. Are you a morning person? Get up 30 minutes before you typically set your alarm and spend it with God. Are you a night owl? After the kids go bed, spend some time in prayer and God’s word. If you’re somewhere in between, you know your schedule. Make a divine appointment with God every day to pray.

Uninterrupted time with God means more focused growth in your relationship with him.

– JOURNAL AND PEN
“Then he said, “Write this down, for these words are trustworthy and true.” Revelation 21:5b

I have a ton of journals, notepads, documents, apps, and post-its all over the corners of my life. You know why? Because I can easily forget. I have forgotten birthdays, meetings, scriptures, and other important pieces of information because I have forgotten to put it on my calendar or write it down. Listen, I’m human. And so are you. Because we are human and do not possess supernatural memory power over every detail in life, we need to write important things.

Using a prayer journal is a documentation of your relationship with God.

You will have seasons of hardship, seasons of great blessing, and everything in between. Through it all, you will need to be reminded of God’s faithfulness. What better way than to flip through the pages of your story with God through the events you’ve personally witnessed.

Grab yourself a special journal dedicated to your relationship with God. You’ll be thankful you kept note of his goodness in your life that you can share in your testimony.

Pray this prayer as you begin to ready your heart for a closer walk with God.

Father,
You are my lifeline. You are the one who made a way through your Son, so that we may stay connected. I rely on your listening ear and tender voice. I trust your heart and want to commune with you all my life. I want to know your voice of truth against any lie that Satan wants to shout at me. Keep me close so that I don’t wonder; I don’t want to miss anything you want to share with me.

I pray all of this in the name of Jesus,
Amen!

Hi! My name is Julie Colvin. The wife to my hubby, Josh. Mother of three little ladies, whom I also homeschool. I am a writer. I am a Bible college graduate. I have a passion for the Word and ministry. I love teaching, singing and listening to people’s stories. I’d love to hear yours over some coffee and good chocolate sometime!

My prayer is that through this ministry, YOU would be edified in such a way that pulls you to action, so that you can train other women and encourage them as women of the Word. Trust the Training is designed to walk you through, in a very practical way, your purpose, how you live that purpose, and how to lead other women in their purpose.

Thanks for being a part of this journey with me!

-Julie
